DESCRIPTION:  Federal 990 tax forms are required of charities with gross receipts over $25,000 annually and of foundations. The 990 tax forms provide information on funder assets, expenditures, grantmaking, and board members. When available online, 990 forms usually provide more recent data than the FC Search database or print directories.
ONLINE:  Guidestar, Grantsmart, the Foundation Center and many state government web sites have begun developing online archives of 990 forms. Take advantage of the tutorials and help features at the following web sites if you are unfamiliar with the 990 format:
Guidestar:  www.guidestar.com
Grantsmart: www.grantsmart.com
